In June 2025, Sarnia City Council approved the establishment of a Municipal Services Corporation (MSC) to manage the airport. While the City retains ownership of the airport, the MSC is a corporation that will make business decisions independently of Council. The MSC will be governed by a Council-appointed Board of Directors, with some powers delegated to an Airport Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
On July 20, 2026 Sarnia Council voted to approve the incorporation of the Sarnia Airport Municipal Services Corporation; in addition to the newly-established corporation's Board of Directors.
The following individuals have been appointed to the board:
The Board of Directors for the MSC, consists of four to six voting public members, the CEO as a voting member, one voting representative from the City of Sarnia Economic Development Department, and one voting member reserved for a representative from Sarnia City Council.
The MSC’s primary mandate is to oversee the safe operation of the airport, strive for long-term financial sustainability, promote growth, and increase its overall economic impact for Sarnia and Lambton County.
The MSC will assume full operational and governance responsibilities for YZR upon the expiration of the current headlease agreement on June 30, 2027.
